Video: The importance of heel-and-toe downshifts
We often go on about heel-and-toe downshifts on Total 911. Indeed they are the great joy of driving a manual Porsche 911, blipping the throttle on the downshift accompanied by that wonderful flat six bark.
But why are they so important? Well, with the release of the latest manual performance 911 – the new Porsche 991 R – Zuffenhausen has generated a series of ‘driving lesson’ videos, fronted by factory racer, Patrick Long.
This latest instalment is episode three and is probably the most informative yet, looking at how and why we should use the heel-and-toe technique. If you’re downshifts need some work, this is the perfect way to spend two minutes of your time.
