Porsche in America

The exhibition will include examples of Porsches that made a particular impact in the USA, including the prototype 356 Speedster, the 356 America Roadster, and the 550 Spyder. It runs until 9th January 2011.

What caught our attention is this fantastic photograph of Ferry Porsche and his son, Ferdinand Alexander, with a 356 A at New York docks in 1958. Stunning!

Update: Here’s a photo of that once-proud ship, wrecked off the Canary Islands:

wonder if that car is still around and if it is it would be great to try and recreate that photo.

  • More of a problem might be getting the ship back to the location – sadly, it’s wrecked off the Canary Islands.

Beautiful photo (top!), shame about the history of the ship.

Reading Wikipedia it reports that after it ran aground it took 14 years to finally go under the waves.
