This video proves why we want to race a SWB Porsche 911 at Goodwood

Next March, the Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex – home of the world-famous Revival race meeting – will host its 73rd Members’ Meeting, a heady mix of historic racing, on track demos and British nostalgia.

On the card for the 2015 running of this revitalised event will be a race solely for short-wheelbase Porsche 911s of the type built before 1967. Think of it as a sort of historic Carrera Cup race but with screaming 2.0-litre flat sixes instead of the howling 3.8-litre Mezger.

This year’s Revival gave a flavour of this race with three SWB Porsche 911s taking part in the Fordwater Trophy on Sunday morning. Among them was Historika’s 1964 Porsche 901, a proven winner in the historic racing world.

At the helm, British GT ace, Andrew Smith pedalled the silver sliver of Stuttgart metal to third place overall and now you can ride onboard for the duration of the race as the Scot gets his 901’s tail wagging at some fairly extreme angles.

If there was a reason why Senior Staff Writer, and part-time racer, Josh was looking to get onto next year’s grid, this incredible footage is it. So sit back and enjoy.
