Video: New Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet in action

Just under two weeks ago, Porsche released the first official shots of the new Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet. The 991-type convertible will make its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 20 November but, before its in-the-metal reveal, Stuttgart has shown the car in action on film.

The 911 Turbo Cabriolet employs a new roof design, made up of solid panels supported by a lightweight, magnesium frame. This innovative design alloys the roof profile to closely mimic that of the Turbo Coupé that we drove for the first time in issue 105 of Total 911 magazine.

By keeping the iconic sweeping roof profile, Porsche is able to improve aerodynamics over the outgoing Turbo Cabriolet. This not only increases fuel economy, but also improves performance in comparison to the 997-type Turbo Cabriolet.

In standard Turbo guise, the car is able to sprint from 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds, just one-tenth slower than the new 991 Turbo Coupé. The Turbo S Cabriolet knocks 0.3 seconds off that time.

The 991-type Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet (and Turbo S Cabriolet) will be released for sale in December, with prices starting at €174,431 for the standard car, increasing to €207,989 for the Turbo S Cabriolet. UK prices are still to be confirmed.
