Video: A Porsche 911 Carrera RSR masterclass with Patrick Long

Hear the words ‘Monterey Car Week’ and you probably think of the numerous prestige car auctions as well as the world famous Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

However, the seven-day automotive extravaganza in central California also sees plenty of track action with the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at the legendary Laguna Seca Raceway.

Factory Porsche racer, Patrick Long can often be found at the annual event racing some form of Zuffenhausen exotica (last year it was a 2.0-litre 911S), giving it his all in some near-priceless machinery.

For 2015, Long – a dyed-in-the-wool Porsche enthusiast – was on driving duties in a 1975 911 Carrera RSR. Up against a horde of 935s (with more than double the power of his RSR), the affable Californian more than held his own.

Luckily, US motorsport magazine, Racer, strapped a GoPro to Long’s helmet so that we could all watch a master at work (and listening to that 3.0-litre flat six’s song). Enjoy.
