Total 911 sleeps with the enemy

photoOK, what does the 911 enthusiast do when he’s got to take his family on holiday? A predicament I was faced with, and with a wife who likes to pack for every eventuality and a daughter who’s following in her footsteps, four of us squeezing into a 911 for a week’s break in Devon was just not going to happen.

So, what’s the next best thing to a 911 if you’re into Porsches. A Cayenne perhaps? Well, that’s what I’ve chosen as the family hack for the week.

And, being Total 911, I’ve not chosen a girly diesel but rather the range-topping, OPEC-draining GTS. With a 4.8-litre V8 engine that develops 405bhp and 500Nm, the GTS hits 62mph in just 6.1 seconds and has a top speed of 156mph. Slow by 911 standards, perhaps, but fast for a 3000kg behemoth.

It has 911 DNA in its handling, too, with a 20mm lower ride height than standard (the GTS admits to not being an offroader). It’s surely a Cayenne for 911 owners, if ever there was one.

Watch this space to see how we get on.
