Single-seater winner to get a chance at the Carrera Cup GB

One aspiring single-seater racer will win a test session in the guest car of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB when the inaugural Ian Taylor Trophy Race for Formula Ford 1600 is held at Thruxton on Sunday 28 June.

The race winner will get to sample the 420bhp Porsche 911GT3 Cup car in an end-of-season test session, thanks to the strong links between the Carrera Cup GB and the Porsche Driving Experience Centre at Silverstone.

The race will honour the memory of Ian Taylor, who raced FF1600 at Thruxton in the late 1960s and early 1970s before climbing further up the single-seater ladder during a very successful career. His son James is the manager of the Porsche Driving Experience Centre and did some FF1600 racing himself in the early stages of his racing career.

“From a family perspective, we are very flattered that this is going to happen,” said James Taylor. “We are honoured to be thought of in this way and to have a race named in dad’s memory. We’re going to be there to present the awards.”

The race winner will have the unforgettable experience of testing the Carrera Cup car and Taylor says it is a fantastic prize. “It’s a chance for a young racer to sample the 911GT3 Cup car, which is a great award for the first Ian Taylor Trophy Race.”
