Nick Tandy to race in Brands Hatch Blancpain round

Porsche North America Racing driver, Nick Tandy will return to action on UK shores this weekend after it was announced the factory racer will drive for Farnbacher Racing in the Brands Hatch round of the Blancpain Sprint Series.

Tandy, the 2014 24 Hours of Daytona GTLM-class winner, will drive Farnbacher’s Porsche 911 GT3 R alongside Swiss driver, Philipp Frommenwiler. The UK event will mark Porsche’s first appearance in the Blancpain Sprint Series this season.

“I’m looking forward to it, especially as it is on the Grand Prix circuit,” said Tandy talking to Total 911. “It’s one of my favourites.” The British racer last competed on the longer Brands Hatch layout in last year’s British GT Championship, and is no stranger to success at the Kent circuit.

Tandy has plenty of previous experience in 997 GT3 R machinery, racing in British GT and Blancpain over the years.

In 2010, Tandy won the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland round at Brands Hatch on his way to second place in the championship. Three years previously, the Total 911 columnist won the famous Formula Ford Festival around the shorter ‘Indy’ layout too.

While this will be the first race of the Blancpain Sprint Series season for the Porsche 997 GT3 R, Frommenwiler is looking to challenge near the front of the highly competitive GT3-class field.

“I think we are well positioned. Together with Nick Tandy and the experienced squad of Horst Farnbacher we want to have some say when it come to the podium positions,” explains the Swiss racer.

Philipp Frommenwiler hopes that partnering with Porsche ace, Tandy will give the team a chance of a podium finish.
