200 barn find Porsches up for auction
A remarkable, 200-strong collection of Porsches will be coming to auction in Norfolk, UK, over the coming months, with the first sale taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Anglia Car Auctions, of Kings Lynn, will be auctioning the first batch of 911s, 912s, and 356s on Saturday 24th August. The cars range from project vehicles and rolling chassis, to cars in working order that need varying degrees of work to both bodywork and running gear.
The incredible collection, which includes 50 early Porsche 911s, has been built up over the last decade by an American enthusiast. Because of this, the selection of Stuttgart-built cars is predominantly left-hand drive.
Of the Porsche 911s with matching numbers, a 1969 T is the pick of this primary bunch. The two-owner car has 59,000 miles on the clock and features a raft of S options, with original documents to boot too.
The car is UK registered and has 12 months MoT and is expected to reach between £22,000 and £25,000.
The auction has so far attracted worldwide attention, as Anglia Car Auction’s Rob George explained to Total 911: “It’s completely crazy. Normally we get 1200 to 2000 people turn up for an auction, although August is slightly quieter because of the summer holidays.
“We’ve had to double everything though for this one, including security. It really has gone viral.”
After the bank holiday sale, the next classic auction at ACA will take place on 9th November. 30 more cars from the collection, which is currently in transit from storage in the US, have already been earmarked for this sale.
“It’s all been a bit of a rush this time,” said George. “But next time we plan to have 50 to 60 pictures of all the cars available.
“It looks likely that we’ll have some late-Seventies and Eighties SCs and Turbos next time. All the seller’s cars are air cooled, and he has a few 2.7 RSs, in both lightweight and touring spec.
“There might be one or two of them up at the next auction.”
