Josh Webster wins 2014 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholarship

Josh Webster has won the 2014 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholarship, providing him with £80,000 towards a Carrera Cup GB drive in both the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

The 19-year-old racer from Stowmarket (in Suffolk, UK) has raced in the GP3 single seater series this year, supporting the European rounds of the F1 World Championship.

As well as the obligatory track test (in the current Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car) the four candidates were put through their paces in a variety of areas on the evaluation day at Silverstone’s Porsche Experience Centre on 21 October.

In the afternoon, all the drivers’ fitness was pushed to the limit at the Porsche Human Performance Centre, where both their strength and endurance was tested.

This facility has seen visits in the past from Mark Webber, current Red Bull F1 driver and future Porsche LMP1 pilot, highlighting the facility’s strenuous programme.

There was also a panel interview, including current British Porsche 911 stars, Nick Tandy and Michael Meadows, and a mock media exercise where the candidates were grilled by ITV British Touring Car Championship presenter, Louise Goodman.

Names’s… first race will be in the new 991 GT3 Cup, providing a new car for all the 2014 Carrera Cup GB competitors. The car has already proven itself this year in the Mobil 1 Supercup.

The 2014 Porsche Carrera Cup GB gets underway at Brands Hatch on 29 and 30 March. Once again, Total 911 will bring you all the action.
