‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star, Patrick Dempsey to stay with Porsche in 2014
Porsche has announced that Patrick Dempsey, star of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, will stay within the Stuttgart racing fold for the next two seasons after a new deal between the American actor and the German manufacturer was finalised earlier this week.
Dempsey, whose Dempsey Racing outfit enjoyed a partnership with Italian footballer, Alessandro del Piero this year, has been racing a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in the American Le Mans Series’ GTC class.
“We are looking forward to many more successful years partnering Porsche”, Dempsey said. “The partnership with Porsche this year was the absolute highlight and the main reason for the success we enjoy.”
As well as securing a trio of podiums in the ALMS this season, including second in class at the season-ending Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, Dempsey has sampled the more powerful GTE-class 911 GT3 RSR this season.
In partnership with Proton Competition, Dempsey made his return to the 24 Hours of Le Man in 2013, finishing fourth in the GTE-Am class alongside long-time teammate, Joe Foster.
The partnership will also continue to see Porsche benefit from the promotional opportunities brought about through their tie-up with the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star.
“Patrick is a passionate race driver who embodies the professionalism and amiability that makes the Porsche motorsport family what it is”, explained Jens Walther, head of Porsche Motorsport North America.
Although Dempsey will continue to race Porsches in 2014 and 2015, it has yet to be decided which series the American will compete in. Porsche have revealed they will produce the 911 GT America for the new USCR series, while CORE autosport will also field works 911 RSRs in the championship.
