The upcoming Porsche 991 GT3 R looks and sounds awesome

The 991 generation of Porsche 911 has been around since the tail end of 2011. In the four years that have followed, Porsche has created nearly ever conceivable variation, from the basic Carrera through to the thoroughbred racer: the 991 RSR.

However, as yet, Porsche hasn’t released a 991 GT3 R – the racing version of the 911 built to the FIA’s GT3 class regulations – leaving teams in championships such as the Blancpain Endurance Series to soldier on with the 997 GT3 R.

Initially, rumours circulated that there wouldn’t be a Porsche 991 GT3 R (though these were soon quashed when a test mule was first spotted last year). Now, Weissach has been out testing again with a nearly complete 991 GT3 R and YouTube user, ‘19Bozzy92’ was at Monza to film it in action.

Details are obviously scarce however, it its likely to use a 4.0-litre version of the Mezger flat six (as found in the 991 RSR). It definitely sounds that way as it blasts around the famous Italian racetrack. The car is also rumoured to be based on the 991 GT3 RS, including the sculpted bonnet and roof.

Until the Porsche 991 GT3 R is officially launched (likely to be towards the end of this season for next year’s racing), all we can do it sit back and watch the car in action. Enjoy!
