Sankt Johann im Pongau to Zauchensee, Austria

Written by our community author Jason.

Here, you’re driving in Salzburgland so you better like amazing scenery. This route treats you to 32 kilometres of mountain roads and amazingly well kept asphalt. There are many elevations in altitude too, some of it steep – there’s some 300 meters of climbing to be found between St Johann and Wagrain alone.

Start by travelling east along the B163 from St Johann, travelling through the market town of Wagrain (located high up in a beautiful valley) before continuing along the B163 towards Altenmarkt im Pongau. Then, take the L252 south towards Zauchensee to continue the thrilling driving among idyllic scenery.

This is my home road and one that always puts a massive smile on my face. At 100km per hour it’s a blast. Early morning or after 6pm is best to avoid slower drivers, though the road upto Zauchensee has little summer traffic and is amazing. Meant for 911’s like my 964, each drive is simply sensational.
