Porsche Carrera Cup GB: Donington Park practice report

Samsung Smart Racing’s Michael Meadows led the way in Carrera Cup GB testing yesterday as everyone got up to speed at the Donington Park circuit (near Derby, UK) ahead round two of the 2014 championship.

Meadows, who took full points from the Brands Hatch opener at the end of March, topped the timesheets in both free practice sessions around the 1.979-mile ‘National’ layout.

The championship leader’s best lap time of 1m07.227s came in the second of the two test sessions at the sweeping, undulating circuit on the Leicestershire/Derbyshire border. Redline Racing teammate, Victor Jimenez was just 0.044s behind.

Victor Jimenez enjoyed a step up in speed. Expect him to feature prominently at front in both races.

Redline Racing completed a sweep of the top-three positions as Porsche Scholarship driver, and Total 911 racing columnist, Josh Webster finished the day a scant 0.082s down on pacesetter and teammate, Meadows.

The Nine Group and Admiral Solutions-supported racer was in the mix all day, finishing a healthy half-a-second ahead of the fourth placed driver, Karl Leonard (who runs in the Pro-Am1 class).

As ever at Donington Park, times were close across the board, with the top seven drivers covered by just one second. With two 23-lap races (one on Saturday, one on Sunday) the action is sure to be frantic. Keep an eye on the Total 911 Twitter feed for regular updates.

Porsche Scholarship driver, Josh Webster completed a tight top trio as he looks to continue his fantastic debut Carrera Cup GB season.
