The distinctive Fuchs alloy was a 911 trademark for much of the 1960s to 1980s and, now, you can get Fuchs lookalikes for your 997.

First seen on the limited edition car of the same name, the Sport Classic wheels are a modern interpretation of the Fuchs, with a black centre section and lathed aluminium rim. While the originals were forged alloy, these new ones are cast aluminium.

The new wheels measure 8.5 J x 19 ET 55 and come with tyres in 235/35 ZR 19 (front) and, 11.5 J x 19 ET 50 with tyres in 305/30 ZR 19 (rear). The price in Euros is €5569.20 (about £4800) and they will fit the current 911 range, including the Turbo.

While we’re big fans of the Fuchs wheel, we do think you need to think carefully about whether or not they’ll suit your 997. They’ll work with certain colours better than others.P10_0397

Are they forged or not? Makes a big difference to cost and quality.

Good question. I’m guessing they’re cast but am trying to find out.

I do think the Fuchs wheels look lovely – would suite my black 997 Carerra S – but at that price they need to top quality.

Had official confirmation from Porsche that these new wheels are cast, not forged.

Then they are indeed a massive price!

It’s nice to see the return of the Fuchs, but I have to say tey aren’t a patch on the original.
