Magnus Walker STR II sells for over double estimate
Magnus Walker’s 1972 Porsche 911 STR II has sold at the annual Pebble Beach auction for $302,500, over double its original estimate of $150,000. The cover star of Total 911‘s 100th issue was one of the star attractions at the yearly sale, held during the world-famous Concours d’Elegance celebrations.
The self-styled Urban Outlaw’s second STR project has become his most famous after high-profile television appearances on both sides of the Atlantic. Both Fifth Gear and Jay Leno’s Garage have featured the car, gaining the racing-inspired build international attention.
With interest in the car piqued, bidding for lot 61 at Gooding & Company’s Saturday evening auction was always going to be fierce. The competition for the red, white, and blue hot-rod did not disappoint, with the bids coming thick and fast. The as-yet unnamed buyer eventually added the car to their collection after paying $152,500 (£97,000) above the higher end of the valuation.
Although this was the first time that Magnus has sold a car to the public, he is no stranger to selling his cars. His previous STR project was sold to an enthusiast in France.
