Ben Barker joins Verva Lechner Racing for 2014

Ben Barker, the sole British Porsche Mobil1 Supercup representative, has moved to the Verva Lechner Racing team for this season and hopes the switch will allow him to challenge for the 2014 title.

The Total 911 columnist, who finished tenth in his inaugural Supercup campaign in 2013, will partner race-winning Pole, Kuba Giermaziak, who finished last season in fifth.

21-year-old Barker is confident that the support offered by Lechner Racing (Supercup champions in three consecutive seasons between 2010 and 2012) combined with a year’s experience in the series, will vault him up the grid this season.

Kuba Giermaziak showed impressive speed in the new-for-2013 Verva Racing squad.

“The Lechner operation has a proven record in the Supercup,” Barker explained. “And racing alongside Kuba will give me a recognised benchmark to directly compare my performances – something I didn’t have last season.

“It will be the first time I have contested the same series for a second year and I feel confident that I can challenge at the front, especially with the experience and expertise of Lechner Racing behind me.

“2013 was very much a learning year for me. I know I can build on that and, hopefully, mount a title challenge this year.” You can read all about Ben’s preseason in his first column, on sale 27 March in issue 112 of Total 911.
