2015 Porsche Carrera Cup GB: Croft preview

Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire is the venue for this weekend’s Porsche Carrera Cup GB meeting as the one-make Porsche 911 series holds its seventh and eight races of the 2015 season.

By the time the teams leave Yorkshire on Sunday evening, this year’s championship will have reached its halfway point and, while that means a lot of racing is still to do, we should have a fair idea of who the main title challengers are come the end of race two.

Last season, Josh Webster (one of Total 911’s regular racing columnists) took both wins at Croft as the 2015/16 Carrera Cup Scholar truly kickstarted his charge towards the 2014 title.

Championship leader, Dan Cammish has tasted success at every track this year as he heads into his home race.

Like this time last year, Webster has so far only taken one victory in the Carrera Cup GB as the circus heads to Croft. The Stowmarket racer will be hoping that he can repeat his 2014 performance where two victories in Yorkshire were followed by two more triumphs at Snetterton, his home track.

Looking to stop him though will be Redline Racing’s Dan Cammish. The championship leader (in his first full season of Carrera Cup GB competition) has been the man to beat in 2015, winning four of the six races so far this season.

Croft is Cammish’s home track and, with numerous fans and sponsors in attendance, the 26-year-old driver will be keen to put on another dominant display.

Webster will want to get back to the front of the pack after a difficult time at Oulton Park.

Two-time Carrera Cup champion, Michael Meadows will be looking to spoil his Redline Racing teammates’ party however. Meadows is arguably the man on the move right now, having taken his first victory of the year last time out at Oulton Park.

Driving under his now familiar Samsung SUHD TV Racing banner, Meadows also topped free practice one this morning at Croft, besting Webster by half a second, with Cammish a further 0.1 seconds further back in third.

Qualifying gets under way at 3:05pm GMT tomorrow, with both 15-lap races taking place on Sunday. Race one starts at 12:42pm and the second encounter is green flagged at 16:19pm, with both races broadcast live on ITV4.
